Black Tie Cabinets

The finishing touch
Wood species, laminates, and finish information.
We can match Benjamin Moore paint colors.
All wooden Black Tie Cabinets are finished using state of the art equipment and high quality catalyzed furniture coatings. Black Tie Cabinets offer superior finishes compared to imports and small shops that often do not have high tech finishing equipment or use less durable coatings. The shop utilizes a dust free finishing area to create the best furniture finish available.
Please read our important species/finish disclaimer (click here).
Paint and Stain Options
Benjamin Moore Color Match: Black Tie Cabinets does not use Benjamin Moore paint, instead it is a high quality furniture grade catalyzed finish. If you wish to match a Benjamin Moore color, you can order your cabinets through the color match service.
Stain Color Match: Black Tie Cabinets requires that you send us a wood sample (in the same species of wood you want us to use) and we will color match the sample that you send to us.
You will receive a matched color sample to approve prior to the production of your cabinets. Please note that this process often adds a few weeks (approx.) to your delivery time frame. For quickest delivery, please select a finish from our standard stain and paint options shown below.
This page does not show all the wood species available. Since the cabinets are custom we can offer virtually endless wood choices. If you want a wood species or finish not shown, please let us know what you are looking for.
Flexible choices: With us, you pick the wood species, the finish, and the door style.
Birch
Birch is a heavy, hard, and strong wood. It has a white sapwood and light reddish brown heartwood. The wood is generally straight-grained with a fine, uniform texture, and is generally characterized by a plain, often curly or wavy pattern.

Cherry
Cherry ranges in color from white to deep brown. Exposure to light in your home will deepen these colors, turning the wood to a dark, reddish brown in the darker areas, while the light areas will deepen to shades from yellow to brown. These changes are natural, and should be expected. Cherry may contain areas of gum pockets, mineral streaks, sap marks, and pin knots. These characteristics are common and to be expected as a natural part of the wood.

Clear and Knotty Pine
Clear Pine: Pine is a softwood known for its versatility and affordability. It's generally light in color, ranging from pale yellow to reddish-brown, and features a straight to curvy grain. Pine is relatively soft, making it easy to work with, but also susceptible to dents and scratches. It's commonly used in construction, furniture, and decorative projects. Clear pine is a select version of pine which has less knots and often no knots.
Knotty Pine: Knotty pine has a light color (often yellow to off-white) with prominent dark knots. The knots can vary in size and shape, and their centers are commonly dark brown.
Pine cabinets (if ordered without distressing) may acquire dents, scratches or dings during shipping, unloading, at installation time or during use. These softwood issues are not to be covered under warranty and should be expected as normal wear.

Mahogany
Mahogany wood is prized for its reddish-brown color, straight grain, and durability, making it a popular choice for furniture, cabinetry, and other woodworking projects. It's also known for its workability, resistance to decay, and ability to hold finishes well.

Maple
Maple is a smooth, close-grain wood that is primarily off-white in color. While maple is very uniform, you will notice random rays of wood grain outlined with small, darker lines. Small black dots, known as bird's eyes, and black mineral traces are another touch of nature in solid maple doors. These characteristics are common and to be expected as a natural part of the wood. Maple will also begin to take on a golden hue as it ages.

Paint
Our painted cabinets combine the beauty of wood with the clean look of a painted finish. Over time, the wood will naturally expand and contract and the painted finish may develop hairline cracks, most noticeable in the joint areas. This is a result of the genuine hardwoods used in the manufacture of our products. These changes can be expected with the beauty of our painted cabinets. To minimize the uneven look of the wood's natural changes in center panels, you may request MDF door instead of paint grade wood. Most veneered doors or veneered center panel doors will be made without the veneer when the finish is painted and will be MDF instead.
Please note that the interior of the cabinets will be natural wood color unless you ask for matching wood interiors. Open and glass door cabinets will have matching interiors.

Red Oak
The sapwood of red oak is white to light brown and the heartwood is a pinkish-reddish brown. The wood is similar in general appearance to white oak, but with a slightly less-pronounced figure due to the smaller rays. The wood is mostly straight-grained, with a coarse texture. Pre-boring is recommended for nailing and screwing.
Walnut
Walnut is beautiful wood stained or natural. The natural characteristics common for this species result in a blend of off-white to gray to medium brown tones throughout. It shows a curly grain pattern with occasional mineral or pin knots. Standard grade Walnut can have up to 35% of light sapwood present in the center panels of doors.

Important Wood and Finish Characteristics:
If you purchase Black Tie Cabinets from KitchenPlace you agree that you understand and accept the following information about natural woods and finishes:
Because of the unique characteristics of wood, it is important to realize that the beauty of wood cabinetry really comes from the natural qualities of the wood itself. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we want you to fully understand the characteristics that make our finishes so distinctive. The cabinet shop utilizes only select solid hardwoods and hardwood veneers. The beauty of these genuine woods lies in the variation of the grain. Natural and light stains show the natural beauty of wood. Wood differs in color, density, graining and texture from tree to tree within the same species (this is even true within the same tree.) Color samples can only represent an overall general guide to the appearance of the finished product. Small displays and wood samples may sometimes be deceiving and possibly not a true representation of a complete kitchen. Two doors side by side may contrast in appearance; this is to be expected. The wood used within the same door may also have a contrasting appearance within the panel area or even from rail to rail. Glazed, Wear Sanding, and Special finishes cannot be guaranteed that all components of a job will be an exact match to a sample. Due to the application process of the special and glazed finishes, the build up of glaze will vary from one piece to another on the same order. These variations can be dramatic. The beauty and uniqueness associated with these finishes is due to the broad variations. Considering the artistic quality of these finishes, the variations discussed above will not be considered defects and will not be cause for replacement. The textures of some natural grain patterns often remain visible with a painted finish and should be accepted as inherent characteristics when selecting painted cabinetry. In addition, as the wood naturally expands and contracts with varying conditions, slight joint separations may occur; these may become visible as small cracks in the painted finish, particularly in joint areas. Also, over time, there may be a slight color shift in the painted finish due to continued exposure to natural and artificial light sources.
Please note that the interior of the cabinets will be natural wood color. If you want a painted or matching stain interior, that is an optional upgrade. Please let us know if that is important to you during the design stage and before you order your cabinets.
Glossy finishes require special maintenance depending upon the type of finish. Please inquire about glossy maintenance before ordering cabinets with a high gloss.
